Noel deployed to Vietnam with 1 ARU Oct/Nov 1969, he joined 8 Platoon, Charlie Company, 5 RAR on 13 November as a forward scout. In February Noel was WIA, by shrapnel, in a bunker contact west of Xuyen Moc. When the Battalion finished its Tour of Duty he was transferred to 7 RAR, was again WIA and medivaced to Australia on 6 May 1970.Noel completed 30 years in the ARA retiring in 1999 with the rank of Sergeant.
