Rudolph Stachow

Rudolf Stachow (name changed to Rudolph) son of a Polish exserviceman, World War II and a German mother who met while his father was part of the Polish contingent of the British Occupational Forces in Hamburg, Germany. Rudolph was included in the 14th national service intake in October 1968. Served in South Vietnam 1969/70 firstly with 12 Platoon D Company 9RAR as a rifleman. On return of 9RAR to Australia in November 1969 was transferred to 5RAR, Tracker Platoon, Support Company, completed a 4 day stretcher bearer course at Fire Support Base Cape after Colonel Khan had sort volunteers to undertake platoon medic duties. On completion was assigned to the Tracker Platoon as the Platoon Medic. Saw action in various areas including ambush sites and enemy bunkers. Returned to Australia with the 5th Battalion in March 1970.

From Majors Creek NSW, attended Majors Creek Primary and Braidwood Central School and graduated from the University of Canberra with a Bachelors Degree in Applied Science
