Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Burnie Advocate 12 November 1930. "AFTER 14 YEARS. Woman Hears of Fate of Son."
SYDNEY, Tuesday. - Mrs. R. Mahoney, wife of Mr. Mahoney, M.L.C., received word today that her son's body had been found after 14 years.
Yesterday the Base Records Department, Melbourne, wrote to Mrs. Mahoney telling her that the Imperial War Graves Commission had informed them that the remains of an Australian officer and eight other soldiers had boon recovered from an isolated grave near Pozieres. Among those identified was her son.
The shock after so many years of anxiety as to what had happened to her oldest boy prostrated Mrs. Mahoney. Her son, who was 20 when he enlisted in 1915, was reported missing on August 5, 1916."
