Never to meet his son
Frederick or Dick as he was known, and my great grandmother Anthea were married in 1915, right before he shipped out to Europe to serve in the 1st world war. Anthea was pregnant and gave birth to a little boy in early 2016. Unfortunately baby Frederick passed away later that year, just a month before his father, Dick, died from wounds sustained in battle in France. He was 30 years old.

KLEIN Killed in action, 21st December, 1916. Gunner FREDERICK JOHN KLEIN Parkes.
To day as we look at your photo,
A soldier so young and so true ;
Do you know that our hearts are aching
And longing, dear Dick, for you?
You fell in a battle near Pozieres„
We know you fought brave and true,
You fought for your home, and your
country.
And the flag of red, white and blue.
Inserted by his loving wife, Mrs F. J.
Klein.
KLEIN—Killed in action, 21st December, 1916, Gunner FREDRICK JOHN KLEIN. Parkes.
Gone is the one we loved so dear,
Silent the voice we loved to hear ;
His unknown grave is the bitterest blow
That none but our aching hearts can
know.
Somewhere in France they have laid him
From our loved one we had to part,
From memory's page we'll never blot .
Your simple words— ' Forget me not "
Inserted by his loving mother, brothers and sisters.
