George Turner Brown

Biographical information (from 'Queenslanders who fought in the Great War'): BROWN, George Turner. Private, No. 2334, 5th/26th Battalion. Born at Gympie in 1896, and educated at Gympie. The son of the late Gaius Frederick and Margaret Brown, of Ipswich. Enlisted on 19th August, 1915, and sailed for Egypt on 5th October, 1915, thence to France, via Marseilles. Went into the firing line June, 1916, at Flers, and then to Pozieres and Moquet Farm. Invalided to England with trench feet, but returned to the lines at Gappy; was wounded on 23rd August, but remained in the line. Returned to England, and sailed for Australia on 13th April, 1919, and arrived in Melbourne 5thJune, 1919
