Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of James and Mary Jane GRACE

Ernie died in 1947 aged 56 and was survived by his widow and seven children.

Obituary - Mr Henry Ernest Grace died at his home in Vindex Street, Winton, at the age of 56. Born at Barcaldine, he had three years' service in the first World War, his unit being the 23rd Machine Gun Company of the 3rd Battalion, A.I.F. Shortly after his return and discharge, he came to Winton as a draper for messrs Corfield and Fitzmaurice Pty. Ltd. At  that time Winton had a band to be proud of and Mr Grace was its bandmaster. In 1922 he went to N.S.W. and conducted his own drapery business in Bulli and in Orange. His marriage to Miss Kathleen Ford took place in Sydney in 1924.
The depression years compelled the deceased to relinquish the business on his own account and in 1931 he returned to Winton to take charge of Messrs Robinson and Kennedy's drapery department. Again he assumed command of the Winton Town Band, but difficulty in recruiting players eventually caused it to go into recess. For several years he was secretary of the Winton sub-branch of the RSSAILA. This extra duty he found too much for him on his acceptance 18 months ago, of the management of  Messrs Robinson and Kennedy's store. Latterly his health had not been the best, and he received hospital treatment. He is survived by his widow and seven children., Eugenie Marie, Patricia, Betty,  Elaine, Richard Ernest, Peter and Barbara, aged 8. Two of his brothers, living elsewhere in the State, were also for some time residents of Winton.
They are Mr Herb Grace, who conducted a cordial factory, and Mr R. Grace, manager of the Winton branch of the Q.N. Bank.
