Arthur Hugh Kenrick was the son of Herbert and Annie Kenrick, of Queensland. His younger brother, 1683 Pte. Henry George Kenrick 49th Battalion AIF had been killed in action at Mouquet Farm on 4 September 1916, aged 27.
The family came to Queensland form England during 1889, when Arthur was just 4 years of age. Arthur attended State School in Brisbane and was working as a clerk for an insurance firm when he enlisted.
The 47th Battalion was engaged in stopping the German Spring Offensive by defeating attacks around Dernancourt on 28 March 1918, when Arthur was wounded. He was admitted to a Canadian General Hospital at Etaples suffering from a shrapnel wound to his forearm. A foreign body was removed from his arm and he suffered a haemorrhage from his elbow. Septicemia later developed and died of his wound three weeks after being hit.
