The details that I provide are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by Lucas Jordan published in 2017, refer to the story on pages 29 and 30 plus the biographic notes at the rear of the book. the story added by the other contributor is correct per this book. the front page of this virtual record shows the soldier as a private, but he had been promoted to Lieutenant prior to the date (13Apr18) of the patrol mentioned. He had enlisted 12th Jan 1916 showing his age as 20 years, with an occupation of Ironmoulder and living at Mannum SA. He returned from overseas service 15th May 1919.

Enlisted at Adelaide 12 January 1916. Posted to 50th Battalion, transferred to 43rd Battalion. Commissioned November 1917. Awarded Military Cross May 1918 (medal on display at RSL SA State Branch).

Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He carried out a succesful night raid on the enemy's outpost line, securing much-needed information. During the raid four men became casualties, so this officer re-organised the party, worked round the flank of the enemy post, and took them in rear, being the first into the trench, and capturing a prisoner.
