Carl (Charles) Thorvald Severin OLSEN was born on 4th February, 1876 in Kakkedol, Denmark
His parents were Edward OLSEN and Olivia Petrea ELVINS who arrived in Brisbane from Denmark in November, 1879
He had previously served with the QMI for 2 years & 6 months and with the 5th Infantry Battalion in the Boer War 1901 -1902 before enlisting for WW1
Charles married Lizzie ROWLAND on 18th July, 1905 in Queensland - 3 known children
He died on 6th August, 1915 from shell wounds to his back on board the HS Gloucester Castle -he was buried at sea.

He also served in the South African (Boer) War recorded as Charles Olson on the original nominal roll and as Charles Olsen in the Boer War Service Paybooks and newspaper reports, Private S.N. 421, 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen.
When he enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. E. Olsen, Sandy Creek Road, Warwick. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 87, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. O. Olsen, Post Office, Warwick.
When he enlisted again in 1914 he noted on his Attestation Paper he was married; his N.O.K. being his wife Mrs. E. Olsen, Bowen Bridge Road, Windsor; they had 3 children; and he had previously served in South Africa.
Charles Thorvold Severein Olsen (as recorded by BDM Qld) married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Rowland on 18 Jul 1905 in Queensland.
