He was born Alexander Vindex Vennard on 11.7.1884 at Vindex Station, Winton to Joseph & Jane (Sutherland).
He attended Bowen Boys School.
He became a journalist in Bowen & Proserpine before becoming the editor of The Port Denison Times. He married Isabel Emily Nicol in Proserpine on 13.10.1910. Enlisted on 5.4.1915 in Liverpool, N.S.W.
Joined the 18th Battalion on Gallipoli on 15.8.1915, later being posted to the 3rd Battalion Camel Corp. After suffering numerous bouts of malaria he was posted to the A.I.F. Headquarters in Cairo, where he established & edited the official A.I.F. Magazine Kia-Ora Cooee. Also writing for the Cairo Evening Mail.
Discharged in Sydney on 3.5.1919. From 1921 - 1946 he was a journalist for the North Queensland Register & Townsville Bulletin. He also wrote novels, short stories & poetry, using pen names Bill Bowyang, Frank Reid, Island Exile, Island Trader, Wirraroo, Fossicker &Maurice Dean.
His sons enlisted in WW2, James Alexander Vennard, NX21434 (Rat of Tobruk) & Keith Lindsey Vennard QX27878.
He passed away from heart disease on 16.2.1947 & was buried in Bowen Cemetery, old monument section, grave 1850.
