Son of Theker Featonby and Annie Featonby nee Foreman of 11 Lyall Street, Auburn, Victoria. Brother of Eva Jane Featonby, Annie Bell Featonby and Henry Newark Featonby

After Grammar School he attended Queens College he then completed a year at the Melbourne University Arts.

A farmer from Bendigo, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Featonby embarked with the 7th Reinforcements from Fremantle on HMAT Karoola on 25 June 1915, joining his Battalion on Gallipoli on the 4 August 1915.
Two days later, on 6 August 1915 he was killed in action at Lone Pine, Gallipoli aged 36, and was buried in the Shell Green Cemetery, Anzac.
