Arthur Keane was born at Willunga and enlisted at Morphettville on 21 August 1914. At the time he had been a serving member of 22nd Light Horse for three years. He had four brothers that served Joseph, Frederick Thomas (KIA), Theodore Michael and Wilfred Charles.
Arthur embarked at Adelaide on 22 October 1914 with the 1st Light Horse Regiment and was at Gallipoli from 09 May 1915. He then fought with the Western Frontier Force, ending his service with the 1st Machine Gun Squadron.
Promoted to Lance Corporal on 08 August 1917, Arthur was awarded the "Military Medal" on 01 February 1918 for gallalntry in connection with the capture of El Saba.
He married Elizabeth Somerville in 1923 and died in Mount Gambier on 23 May 1970, aged 76 years.
