Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Albert William Davis was the son of John Richard and Fannie Davis, who were long time residents of Evandale, Tasmania. Albert’s youngest brother, 3280 Pte. Charles Arthur Davis 41st Battalion AIF, was killed in action only 8 weeks after Albert died, on the 3 July 1917, aged 24.

Their father had passed away during 1905. Their mother, Fannie, was enduring a long illness when the news of the death of her two sons was brought to her attention. She passed away in Evandale a few months later.

The brothers had enlisted together in the 26th Battalion but ended up transferring to different battalions.

William fought right through 1916 with the 12th Battalion before he lost his life at Bullecourt in 1917.
