2 Dec 1941: Embarked Royal Australian Navy, Able Seaman, B/2669, HMAS Perth (I) D29 WW2, Along with the USS Houston, HMAS Perth was sunk during the Battle of the Sunda Strait on n the night of 28 February – 1 March 1942 against the Japanese Invasion Fleet. Manttan survived the sinking but was captured and imprisoned in Thailand.
