Served during The Great War, now resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

81 years ago today, on the Tuesday afternoon of the 11th February 1941, Stoker Edward George Ranger, Royal Australian Navy, of 38 Bennett Street, Hamiton, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 45. ANGLICAN 3-158. 23. (died at Henty, N.S.W. on the 9th February.)

Born at Granville, New South Wales on the 3rd April 1895 to George and Sarah Jane Ranger; husband of Elsie Madge Ranger nee Norris (married 1919, Wickham, N.S.W., died?), Edward enlisted April 1916 at Sydney, N.S.W.

Service record indicates serving with HMAS Cerberus, HMAS Penguin, HMAS Parramatta, HMAS Sydney, HMAS Australia.

Termination of service, 12.4.1921.

Younger brother Lyle J (1st Australian Tunnelling Company, Reg No-5605, born 1898, KIA 1917) awaiting memorialisation at the cemetery. ANGLICAN 2-152. 82.

Mr. Ranger’s name has been inscribed on the Young Wallsend Roll of Honour (as E. J. RANGER, unveiled on the 9th November 1917, 21 names inscribed, 3 Fallen).

I located Edward resting in an unmarked grave, forgotten, so May 2021 I placed a cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.
