Son of Robert George Uphill and Ann Uphill nee Livingstone of Greenbushes, WA.

12 February 1916 - enlisted with the 16th Battalion at Blackboy Hill, WA and with the rank of Private

11 April 1917 - wounded in action; wound to the left knee and embarked HS St. George at Rouen on 21 April 1917 for England.

14 July 1918 - promoted to Lance Corporal

8 August 1918 - promoted to Corporal

Commenced return to Australia on 24 January 1919 aboard HT Delta disembarking on 28 February 1919

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

14 April 1919 - discharged at the 5th Military District

During 1922c Robert married Audrey Violet Nellie Sells in North Perth, WA
