"...1589 Lance Sergeant Thomas William Watson, 18th Battalion, of Warrnambool, Vic. LSgt Watson enlisted on 7 April 1915 and was killed in action at Gallipoli on 27 August 1915. He had previously served with the 5th Contingent of the Victorian Mounted Rifles (VMR) in the Boer War and later at Rabaul, New Guinea as a member of the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN + MEF). His cousin, Lieutenant (Lt) J W Witton, 24th Battalion, also served with him on the Gallipoli Peninsula where he was wounded. On recovery, and after further service, Lt Witton returned to Australia on 8 August 1918....
