Gilbert Goldie ANSCHAU was born in Lismore, New South Wales in 1887

His parents were John ANSCHAU & Ruth JONES who married in Lismore in 1885

He enlisted on 16th September, 1914 with the 1st Field Ambulance and embarked on 19th October, 1914 - he was invalided home in April, 1916 due to illness and after recovery he left Sydney on the HMAT Ceramic on 7th October, 1916

Gilbert was Killed in Action in France on 5th May, 1917 - no known grave

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Villers Bretonneux Memorial

His brother Cecil Edwin ANSCHAU (SN 2900) also served in WW1 and returned to Australia in 1919
