4 Oct 1916: Honoured Military Medal, Battle for Pozières , At POZIERES, FRANCE, 19/26th. July 1916, Pte. MENZ acted as a signaller and runner. He displayed exceptional courage and ability, repeatedly taking messages to all parts of the field frequently through heavy fire. On one occasion the enemy barrage fire on POZIERES practically isolated a working party at the CEMETERY but he got through with orders and information, being severely wounded on the return journey, in spite of this he brought back his message to Battalion Headquarters
