From 52nd Battalion AIF
Pte Herbert KENDALL was a farm labourer who enlisted in January 1916 and embarked on board HMAT A74 Marathon on 27 October 1916 with the 7th Reinforcements to the 52nd. He landed in England in early January 1917, was sick in hospital for a time and did further training at Codford. He eventually joined the 52nd in the field on 13 May 1917. He was sick again and hospitalised during August.
At Polygon Wood he was wounded on the 25th and admitted to the 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. From there he was trained to Etaples and the 7th Canadian General Hospital, where he died of his wounds on the 30th.
