'ALDERLEY WELCOME HOME.
Private J. C. Arkell.
On Thursday evening last at Alderley Parish Hall; a welcome home to Private J. C. Arkell, was given by the Church of England Committee. The rector (Canon Osborn) presided, and delivered a suitable address. Members of the Church Committee followed, add all sang, "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Private J. C. Arkell suitably responded. A very enjoyable evening followed, with songs and recitations, and dancing. Mr. Warkell expressed his gratitude to the people for the kind way they gathered together to welcome the young soldier. Private Arkell enlisted on 13th September, 1915, before he was 17 years' old. He returned Invalided on Sunday last.' from The Telegraph 8 Oct 1917 (nla.gov.au)
