Samuel was a member of the Reserve Rifle Club and came 2nd in the State for his skill in musketry.

Brother of Ellen Cubis (Nee Bycroft); John Joseph Thomas Bycroft of Taree, NSW; William Albert Bycroft of Belmore Sydney; George Russell Bycroft; George Percy Bycroft; Charles Edward Bycroft of Fairfield, Sydney; Walter Bycroft of Bathurst; Walkden Brown Bycroft; Mildred Johnstone (Nee Bycroft); Charlotte Bycroft; Arthur Bycroft of Bathurst; Florence Knaggs (Nee Bycroft); and Margaret Faith Plenderleith (nee Bycroft) of Bathurst.
He had served both in Egypt and Gallipoli
