Biography contributed by Faithe Jones
Only son of William Treacher Grant and Emilie Mary Catherine Grant, of Eltham, Victoria, Australia
PRIVATE GEOFFREY T. GRANT (killed in action) was 19 years old, and the only child of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Grant, of Eltham, and was a native of Napier, New Zealand. Before enlisting he was employed at the Sunshine Harvester Works. He left Victoria for the front in May as signaller in
the 8th Light Horse.
On Tuesday a photo of Geoffrey Treacher Grant, who was killed on Gallipoli - the first from here to pay the supreme sacrifice - was unveiled in St. Margaret's Schoolroom by the Scout Padre; the Rev. T. H. Sapsford. The photo was presented to the local Scouts Troop by Mr. W. T. Grant, as their son took an active interest in the movement as Scout Master, at its inception.
GRANT.- In proud and loving memory of our dear and only son, Signaller Geoffrey Treacher-Grant, 8th Light Horse (5th Reinforcements). After carrying his flags into first Turkish trench in the heroic charge at Walker's Ridge, 7th August, 1915, was killed with his comrades. (Inserted by his father and mother.)
