Son of William Isaac Onions and Rosetta Onions nee Sheppard of Forth, Tasmania.

Brother of Albert Carl Onions MM who was killed in action on 11 June 1917 while serving with the 52nd Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Menin Gate, Ypres, Panel 29

Commenced return to Australia on 18 December 1918 aboard HT Aeneas disembarking on 5 February 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Hobart

On 11 June 1925 Edward married Adelina May Moran in St Georges, Burnie, Tasmania
