Son of John Overend and Rebecca Ann Yeadon formerly Overend of Cathcart, NSW.

Brother of Vassale Eloy Thomas Overend who was killed in action on 3 November 1916 and has no known grave. His name appears on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.

After discharged he worked in the boot making industry with William Mawson of Yeardon, England

Commenced return to Australia on 12 March 1920 aboard HT Ceramic disembarking on 30 April 1920
