Son of Joseph Frederick RUHLE and Sophia Christine nee LINDENMAYER
The death occurred in Brisbane on August 21 of Mr Joseph Frederick Ruhle, a well known identity of Clifton and adjoining areas. He was a native of Toowoomba, and was born in 1891. He was a son of Mrs Ruhle and the late Mr J. F. Ruhle, both former well-known and highly respected residents of the Elphinstone district. In his younger years the late Mr Joseph Ruhle resided with his parents at Elphinstone, and carried out the duties of a farmer. In 1914 he left farm work to join the Queensland Police Force. In September, 1915, he resigned from the Police Force in order to enlist with the AIF, and he served overseas for several years. He was severely wounded in the chest and arms while on active service. He never fully recovered from the effects of his war injuries. After his return to Australia he received his discharge from the AIF in April, 1919. He rejoined the Police Force and was appointed, to Warra. While at that centre he married Miss J. Maddock, the youngest daughter of a well-known Warra family. In 1924 his wife died, leaving a son, James. Soon afterwards Mr Ruhle was sent to Nocundra, and he also carried out relieving duties at many stations on the far-western areas. Some years later he returned to Charleville, where he married Miss M. M. Schalk, of Kioora Station, Hendemeoe, NSW. He was also stationed at Gympie and Brisbane. In the last few years his health failed and as a result he had to relinquish his connection with the Police Force. In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons, James and Rodney, and his aged mother. There are also three sisters, Mrs J. Hawkins (Toowoomba), H. Geek (Allora), and G. H. Rickert, (Bell View, Clifton), and 8 brothers: Messrs David J. (Brisbane), Phil (EudIo), George, Arthur and Paul (Allora), Cecil and Edward (Clifton), and Walter (Pittsworth).
