Awaiting memorialisation at Sandgate Cemetery.

103 years ago today, on the 17th August 1918, Private Thomas Denis Condron, 45th Battalion (Reg No-7045), colliery driver from 37 Maitland Road, Islington, New South Wales, was Killed in Action at Villers-Bretonneux, age 19.

Born at Mungandi, Queensland July 1899? to James (died?) and Jane (died 1949). Condron nee Donaldson of 1 Coal Street, Islington, New South Wales and 12 Bevan Street, Islington, N.S.W. and Chinchen Street, Islington, N.S.W., Thomas enlisted September 1917 with the 19th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Thomas is resting at Fouquescourt British Cemetery, France. Plot I Row A Grave 2.

Mr. Condron’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Wickham (Hawkins Oval) Soldiers' Memorial (photos, unveiled on the 24th May 1916, 7 names originally inscribed, 94 names now inscribed of the Fallen), Moree ANZAC Centenary Memorial, Gravesend War Memorial and the Warialda and District Honour Roll 1914-19.

There is no memorial inscription on the headstone of Thomas’s mother Jane to tell us of the supreme sacrifice of her son during The Great War, and I am unable to erect a memorial cross, so I have placed poppies in remembrance of his service for God, King and Country. CATHOLIC 2-32. 92.

Mrs. Condron also tragically lost her daughter Dulcie Jane Condron, age 4 years 9 months (fell asleep on the 13.10.1918)- CATHOLIC 1-10. 70, recent burials here, no mention on headstone of Dulcie sleeping here, very sad.

Lest We Forget.
