Previously served in the Mt. Cook Cadets, South Island, NZ from 1907 to 1908

Failed to embark (service number 742) at Melbourne detained for fourteen days before being discharged.

Returned to Australia on 23 May 1915 aboard HT Suevic for Hernia operation having been declared medically unfit

Commenced return to Australia on 21 March 1919 aboard HT Kildonian Castle disembarking on 9 May 1919

During 1920c Patrick married Ruby Gladys Woodcroft in Hornsby, NSW
