Biography contributed by Glenn Jamieson

Douglas' Grandfather was the Very Reverand George Jamieson of St Machars Cathedral in Old Aberdeen. Douglas' father, Mathew Buchan Jamieson working for BHP as chief engineer, had passed when Douglas was two years old.

He along with his older brother and baby sister returned to Aberdeenshire with thier mother Chritian. When Douglas was 14 years old, he returned to Australia under the watchful eye of his uncle, William Jamieson of Broken Hill Proprietary.

He Attended Agricultural school and then became employed as an overseer for several years.  In 1914, after saving his money, he and a friend left their station (Yathong Station, Hillston, NSW) for Melbourne with the intention of starting their own business.

When war broke out both men enlisted, and on December 29, 1914, the 5' 11" Douglas joined the 8th Light Horse Regiment, B Squadron.

According to accounts, Douglas' sqaudron was the first wave to climb the parapits at the ill fated Nek Offensive on August 7, 1915.
