Served and suffered during The Great War, resting peacefully at Sandgate Cemetery.

47 years ago today, on the 9th January 1974, Private Edward (Ted) Maitland Mullard, 4th Battalion (Reg No. 2794), labourer from 69 Carrington Street, Horseshoe Bend, West Maitland, New South Wales and Lawes Street, East Maitland, N.S.W. and Ourimbah, N.S.W. and 2 Vine Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 79. CATHOLIC 3-93. 61.

Born at West Maitland, New South Wales on the 26th May 1894 to William and Mary Grace Mullard; husband of Florence Ethel Mullard nee O'Neill (married 1919, West Maitland, N.S.W., died 1939, West Maitland, N.S.W. Ted enlisted July 1915 with the 19th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W. Wounded in action - 23.7.1916 (GSW forehead, severe, left thigh, Battle of Pozieres), 2.3.1917 (amputated left leg).

Mr Mullard’s name has been inscribed on the Maitland Manchester Unity Oddfellows, Loyal Good Design Lodge, No. 10 Roll of Honour, West Maitland Superior Public School Honor Roll - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article122660846, Horseshoe Bend Roll of Honour (unveiled on the 21st October 1923, 64 names inscribed, 13 Fallen - and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

Ted has been officially commemorated with a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, curbing and marble chip, and I have placed poppies to honour his service and sacrifice for God, King and Country.

A member of the West Maitland Water Brigade.
Younger brother Stewart Thomas (4th Battalion, Reg No.2792) also served 1st A.I.F.
