Son of Major Alfred Oswald Howse MID and Dizie Elizabeth Howse of College Street, Sydney, NSW. Alfred returned to Australia on 31 December 1916 disembarking at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney.

Commenced return to Australia on 19 February 1919 aboard HT Orca disembarking on the 3 April 1919
