My Fathers Uncle

Just doing a bit of research on my fathers side of the family and found his Uncle Joe.
Joe as his family called him passed away presumably without having children but I would like to have this confirmed so if any-one knows (or is) family to Joe and his wife Elsie (nee Toomey) I would love to know.
Joe was from a Lebanese family who presumably emigrated from the Ottoman occupied areas of Syria and the Lebanese mountains in the late 1800's. Any more information would be kindly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Daniel @ [email protected]

Biography contributed by Paul Trevor

'PERSONAL NOTES.

The Mackay Harbour Board, at its meeting yesterday, placed on record its appreciation of the services of the following Mackay soldiers:— Lieut William F. J. Koch (mentioned in despatches), Privates J. L. M. Gallanty and Joseph Elliott (both awarded Military Medals for bravery in the field). The board also congratulated each on the honour he had won, and such apprceiation will be cabled to them.' from The Brisbane Courier 26 May 1917 (nla.gov.au)

'THE LEAP.

There is a dearth of information concerning our boys at the front but as far as we can learn many are still going strong. Pte. W. Sing is reported again wounded. Pte. Joseph Elliott has been awarded a bar to his Military Medal for bravery in the field, and this recognition of services will be some compensation for the misfortune of losing his right leg. Our best wishes for much more good luck goes to Pte. Elliott in his endeavour for the cause.' from Daily Mercury 12 Jan 1918 (nla.gov.au)

'PERSONAL.

We had a visit yesterday from Joe Elliott, M.M. (and bar), one of the small party that returned on Sunday. Joe is minus a leg and otherwise shaken a good deal, but is as cheery as of yore and is only in Australia because up till the time of his departure he could obtain no satisfactory news of the damage done by the cyclone. He was studying for the R.F.C. when he left "Blighty." Mackay has sent many heroes to the front, but none greater than Joseph Elliott, M.M., of The Leap. Welcome home!' from Daily Mercury 25 Jun 1918 (nla.gov.au)

'MILITARY MEDAL AND BAR.

No. 1685, Private Joseph Elliott. 7 Field Ambulance.— He enlisted at Brisbane on July 23, 1915, and embarked for active service with the 4th Reinforcements of the 7th Field Ambulance on September 1, 1915. Returned to Australia on June 14, 1918, and is still awaiting discharge. He was awarded the Military Medal for services rendered during the battle of Mouquet Farm, where he was doing duty as a stretcher-bearer in the 7th Field Ambulance. At Bullecourt on May 1917, he was awarded a bar to his Military Medal. He left the trenches with the last wave and remained till wounded.' from Daily Standard 22 Jul 1918 (nla.gov.au)
