RATHMANN, Arthur Charles Gustave worked as a farm labourer at  F.H. Randall, Angus Valley South Australia before the war. At enlistment his sister, Miss C Rathmann who lived in Gumeracha, was his nominated next of kin. Arthur served with the 27th Battalion for 2 years before dying from a shrapnel wound. Although he was taken to hospital, later died from the wounds. He was buried in Belgium and all his belongings went to his sister as his will stated.

During Arthur’s time in the war, he became twice ill with jaundice once on 29/11/15 and once again on 21/1/16. Jaundice is a disease that affects the liver turning the skin yellow and white of the eyes.

He was buried at MENIN ROAD SOUTH MILITARY CEMETERY located in Belgium.
