Hubert was the second of four children of Charles Hubert Jason (born 1874 in Bendigo, Victoria) and Edith Annie Bone (born 1872 in Clunes, Victoria). Charles was a Carrier, Hotelkeeper and Cab Driver in Bendigo, Victoria and married Edith in 1895 in Bendigo, Victoria.

Hubert stated he was a Draper in Bendigo when he enlisted in the AIF in July 1915. He served as a Private (Service No:4118) with the 3rd, 23rd, 59th and 57th Infantry Battalions and 15th Machine Gun Coy in Egypt and France. He was WiA (Shell Shock at Boulogne in France in 1916) and Discharged in November 1919. Brother in Law Thomas Earl Edwards (Private; Service No:2401) served in WWI, and Brothers in Law John Henry Edwards (Private; Service No:QX10577); William Caldwell Edwards (Corporal; Service No:QX10578) and Sidney Edgar Edwards (Corporal; Service No:VX47334) served in WWII.

Returning to Bendigo following his Discharge, Hubert married Doris Rose Edwards (born 1903 at Menzies in Western Australia) in 1922 in Bendigo. Hubert and Doris moved to Melbourne, Victoria where Hubert worked as a Letter Carrier, Body Fitter, Labourer and Motor Employee. Hubert died in 1969 in Melbourne and Doris in 1997.
