SERGT. JAMES F. MURPHY.
Mrs. E. M, Murphy, of Warrnambool, has received word from France, that her husband, Sergt. J . F. Murphy, was killed in action on the 29th September last. When he enlisted in July. 1915, at 26 years of age, he was an esteemed employe of Nestle's Coy., at Dennington. Though he had no knowledge of military matters, he soon distinguished himself by securing sergeant's stripes. He was an active member of the local branch of the A.N.A., and at the time of departure held the position of vice-president of that institution. Our departed hero was also a keen enthusiast in political and industrial affairs, and for twelve months filled the president's chair in the local branch of the P. L. C. His honest, happy and obliging disposition never failed to impress his associates aud friends, who will find it hard to realise that such a fine young citizen has gone over the great divide. The deceased hero was a brother of Mr. John Murphy, of Rosebrook.
