Awaiting memorialisation at Sandgate Cemetery.
On the 22nd July 1916, Private Archibald Eastham, referred to as Archie, 3rd Battalion (Signaller, Reg No-3061), clerk (Coastal Farmers' Society, Ltd, Newcastle, N.S.W.), from Carrington Street, Mayfield, New South Wales, was Killed in Action at the Battle of Pozieres, age 22. Cause of death not stated.
No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.
Born at Walton, Liverpool, United Kingdom about 1893 to William (died 19.4.1929, Wallsend, N.S.W., age 59) and Minnie Eastham (died 29.5.1942, Wyong, N.S.W., age 75) of "Ashleigh", Hannell Street, Wickham, New South Wales (1915), and Maryville, N.S.W. (1917) and Main Road, Cardiff Heights, N.S.W. (1919), Archie enlisted on the 4th August 1915 as Archie, with the 18th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A29 Suevic on the 20th December 1915.
Note - service record gives no indication of illness.
Archie is resting at Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boisselle, France. Plot III Row G Grave 34.

Mr. Eastham’s name has been inscribed on the Book of Gold, Wickham Superior Public School Roll of Honour, Wickham (Hawkins Oval) Soldiers' Memorial and the Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honour Board.
There is no memorial inscription on the headstone plaque for the Eastham family to tell us of the loss of their son during The Great War, and I am unable to erect a Memorial cross, so I have placed poppies in remembrance of Archie’s service and supreme sacrifice for God, King & Country. ANGLICAN 2-140. 36.
