Leslie Stuart BURNISTON was born in 1885 in Melbourne, Victoria
His parents were James Edward BURNISTON and Mary Florence RAE
He enlisted on 8th February, 1916 in Melbourne with the 8th Australian Light Horse Regiment & embarked on 6th May, 1916 from Melbourne on the HMAT Clan Maccorquodale with the 17th Reinforcements
Leslie died on 6th November, 1917 at the Advance Dressing Station, Khuweiffel at Khuiweilfeh Ridge, Palestine of Wounds Received in Action and is buried in Beersheba War Cemetery - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
Leslies twin brother Howard McCulloch BURNISTON (SN 5548A) of the 23rd Battalion also served in WW1 and was Killed in Action at Villers Bretonneux, France on 7th August, 1918
