He contracted meningitis while on active service. Francis Leonard Conlin was laid to rest in Roman Catholic cemetery on Monday 14 May 1920. Rev Father Gurry officiated at grave side. Sixteen returned soldiers marched from the church to grave behind the hearse, and four diggers acted as bearers. The President and two presidents from Strathalbyn RSL atttended.

Brother 2176 Lance Corporal William Thomas Joseph Conlin 43rd Battalion AIF, killed in action 29 March 1918, age 24.

His brother Lance Corporal William Thomas Joseph died 29 March 1918, sadly not long after this his father James Conlin died on 1 June, 1918 (had he been told about his son's death?).
Mary Conlin lost her two sons and husband within two years. I have beeen unable to ascertain other children for the couple born in either Broken Hill or Strathalbyn.
