Son of James Robert Hayhoe and Ellen Hayhoe nee Lambert of Dixie, Victoria. Brother of George James Hayhoe who returned to Australia on 13 August 1919 having served with the 9th Light Horse Regiment, Hilda May Hayhoe, Emma Ellen Hayhoe, Louisa Jane Hayhoe and William Lee Hayhoe

Commenced return to Australia on 12 July 1919 aboard HT City of Exeter disembarking on 24 August 1919
