4 Feb 1919: Honoured Military Medal, Villers-Bretonneux, 'For courage and devotion to duty on the night 2nd/5th May, 1917, near VILLERS BRETONNEUX. When all telephone lines with the front were broken he worked continuously all night under very heavy shell fire repairing the lines and succeeded in keeping Battalion Headquarters in communication with the front line, thereby enabling information of the greatest value to be transmitted without delay. His work during the whole tour showed great keeness and utter disregard for personal danger.' Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 15 Date: 4 February 1919
