Sacheveral George SENIOR (Chev) (Service Number 2224) was born on 16th May 1885 in Mosman. He began working with the Tramways on 25th July 1912 as a fitter at Randwick Tramway Workshops.  On 18th November of that year he changed position, to draftsman in the Head Office.  Just over two years later, he was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces.  He enlisted on 11th April 1915.He was 29 at the time.

He embarked at Sydney on 16th June 1915 on HMAT (A63) ‘Karoola’. After disembarking on 4th August 1915 he was taken on strength of his Battalion in Gallipoli.  Senior’s time in the field was short. Only a few days later, he was reported to be missing in action from 7th August. Later, at a Court of Enquiry held on 5th June 1916, it was determined he had been killed in action at the Gallipoli Peninsula.

One report stated:

‘Senior was killed on August 7 at Lone Pine. Witness said that at least 20 men [who] were in the charge have assured him of this’.

Another asserts he:

‘was killed by a bomb in trenches which we had taken from the Turks on Lone Pine’

He has no known grave and is commemorated at Lone Pine Memorial at Gallipoli, Turkey.

After his death, his father was sent his son’s war medals – the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal.

- based on the Australian War Memorial Honour Roll and notes for the Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board.
