2606A Pte. Henry William Cox

Henry is listed on the Boy soldiers roll of honour for the first world war. His true date of birth was 27th November 1899. He also had a twin sister named Ellse. He first joined the AIF in Lismore in August and was discharged in October after his mother wrote to the Army and revealed his true age was not yet 16. The following day he re-enlisted in Brisbane and was embarked on the H.M.A.T. Seang Bee from Brisbane on the 21/10/1915. Henry was originally assigned to the 25th Battalion with whom he embarked from Brisbane. Then on 04 Mar 1916 he was transferred to the 9th Infantry Battalion briefly before before being transferred to the 47th Battalion on 29 May 1916.

Henry was wounded in action on 12 Aug 1916 at Pozières, and he died that same day at the 13th Field Ambulance, aged just 16 years and 9 months. Henry was buried at Warloy-baillon communal cemetery extension France in Plot VII B 47.

Henry was one of 11 children of James S. Cox and Mary Margaret Cox (nee Rice) who lived in the Murwillumbah/Burringbah region of New South Wales.
