Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Edwin was one of the 10th Light Regiment killed in action at the famous charge at the Nek on Gallipoli on 7 August 1915. Over 80 men of the Regiment died in a few minutes during a brave but futile assault on the Turkish trenches. Historian Charles Bean wrote that with that regiment went the flower of WA youth, sons of old pioneering families who flocked to Perth to enlist at the outbreak of the war. Edwin was 19 years of age.
He gave his next of kin as his grandmother on his mother’s side, however his mother Eliza eventually received his medals.
Edwin’s older brother, 5469 Pte. Laurence John White 16th Battalion AIF, was awarded a Military Medal for bravery as a stretcher bearer during 1917. He was eventually killed in action in Belgium, 4 February 1918, aged 23.
