107 years ago today, on the 31st July 1916, Sergeant Robert Haldane Kilpatrick, referred to as Bob, 18th Battalion (Lewis Machine Gun Section, Reg No-588), school teacher (Wallsend Public School), from Camerons Hill, Hamilton, New South Wales, Died of Wounds (gunshot wound to the abdomen) at the 44th Casualty Clearing Station, Battle of Pozieres, age 25.

Born at Wallsend, New South Wales on the 19th January 1891 to John (died 29.9.1903, Wallsend, N.S.W., of "Kelburn", Robert Street, Plattsburg, N.S.W., age 40) and Charlotte Elizabeth Kilpatrick (died 5.4.1938, Toronto, N.S.W., age 75) of "Falkirk", 5 Dixon Street, Hamilton, N.S.W. and Village High Road, Vaucluse, N.S.W., Bob enlisted on the 1st March 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on the 25th June 1915.
Admitted to hospital 8.9.1915 (influenza), 9.9.1915 (hernia).

Wounded in action 30.7.1916 - (GSW abdomen).

Bob is resting at Puchevillers British Cemetery, France. Plot II Row B Grave 63.

Mr. Kilpatrick’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor, Merewether Public School Roll of Honor, Wallsend Public School Memorial Photo, Newcastle High School Roll of Honour, Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Scotts Kirk (Hamilton), Wellington Cenotaph, Public School Teachers World War 1 Honour Roll, Public School Teachers who Served Abroad World War 1 Honour Roll, Parramatta NSW Public School Teachers KIA Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Educated at Wallsend Public School.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised gravesite of the Kilpatrick family in remembrance of Bob’s service and supreme sacrifice for God, King & Country. PRESBYTERIAN-20NE. 17.

Younger brother Andrew Alexander (born 3.12.1892, Wallsend, New South Wales as KILLPATERICK, Andrew A, engineer from "Falkirk", 5 Dixon Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., enlisted 29.3.1916 as Andrew Sneddon, 34th Battalion, Reg No-2106, wounded in action - 20.7.1917 (GSW left buttock), RTA 27.6.1919, 35th Battalion, died 7.5.1978, N.S.W., district unknown as Andrew Alexander, not officially commemorated) also served 1st A.I.F.
