Stanley George Roberts was born in Nowra, New South Wales, on 10 February 19873 His parents were George Samuel Roberts and L. Roberts and they all lived in ‘Glenhurst’, Halstead Street, Hurstville, Sydney, New South Wales. He attended Sydney Technical High School between 1908-1911 and after receiving his intermediate certificate and achieving all B’s in his subjects, he worked as a Bank Clerk before enlisting into the 4th Australian Light Horse.

Stanley George Roberts had enlisted into the 4th Australian Light Horse, but had resigned approximately a year after. On 15/2/1917, he enlisted into the AIF at the Victoria Barracks, receiving the rank of a Gunner. After training he embarked on board H.M.A.T A28 Miltiades, 2 August 1917. He disembarked in Glasgow 2/10/17. The following month he became ill with influenza and spent 5 days in hospital, followed by Stanley then fought in the German Spring Offense, after rejoining his unit from the hospital, as well as putting a war effort during the Battles of Mont St. Quentin and St. Quentin Canal. His ability and determination was rewarded on 10/1/19, when he was promoted to Bombardier.

A few months later, he had joined the AIF headquarters as one of their personnel. On 23/7/19, he left England to return back to Australia per ‘Main’ and on 15/10/19, he returned and disembarked at Sydney, Australia and a couple of months later, on 19/1/20 he was discharged.

After the war, his employment was unknown, but most likely still a bank clerk given past experience before the war. Stanley then had a spouse, by the name of Edith Margeret Roberts, née Hutton2. They had a child named James Robert Roberts (1924-2004)2. Stanley George Roberts died on 26 March 1956, age 59, and was buried at Ballina Cemetery.1
