Richard had two children with Jessica Swanson, Stanley Dohse and Ronald Dohse. 

Richard was 15-18 years older then Irene and Stanley was about 10 years younger then her. 

On the farm they had they grew barley, wheat and had sheep, as well as some chickens. Irene also had a vegetable patch. The farm was far from the rest of the town.

Son of Julius Conrad and Alice Mary Dohse (nee Sampson). On 29 March 1922 Richard married Jessie Evelyn Swanson in the Methodist Church, Bowmans. Jessie died on 20 July 1934 at Balaklava, South Australia. On 2 October 1937 Richard married Irene May Gregory in the Maughan Church, Adelaide
