ROY CLARENCE LESLIE VIRGIN was the son of Joseph Burrows VIRGIN (born Port Elliott Engine Driver) & Susannah Jane ACRES ( daughter of Mary Jane McAllister b 1844 in Liverpool England arriving in SA in April 1863 and Joseph Acres (born in 1843 a baker ) whom arrrived in SA on the Hooghly in 1848.

Roy was born on the 4th May 1894 Petersburg (name changed to Peterborough in 1917) SA. Roy enlisted into the AIF on the 28th of November 1914 in Oaklands, SA and was allotted the service number 959. He was a Private with the 3rd Light Horse, 5th Reinforcements.

He embarked on the 2nd of June 1915 aboard the “HMAT Botanist” for Gallipoli.

On the 4th of August 1915 he returned to Australia on account of Disease aboard HMAT "Port Lincoln" and sent to Langwarrin Isolation Hospital, Victoria.

He was discharged from the hospital on the 2nd of October 1915 and sent to Broadmeadows for re allotment.

On the 7th of March 1916 he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse, 17th Reinforcements and then the 18th Reinforcements on the 16th of April 1916.

Roy re embarked with the 3rd Light Horse, 18th Reinforcements on the 23rd of June 1916 from Adelaide per HMAT "Katuna" and served in Egypt.
He returned to Australia on the 23rd of August 1919 per HT "Dunluce Castle" and was discharged on the 7th of October 1919.

He married Myra Elva NOURSE 29th September 1924 Methodist Church Booborowie SA. Myra was the daughter of Henry Bickford NOURSE.

In 1939 they were living at 6 Chatham Road, Keswick and Roy was a Miller (Cenus record 1939).

Roy was a member of the Keswick & Richmond RSL Sub Branch.

Myra died 23rd May 1966 Keswick SA and was cremated in the Centennial Park Crematorium.

Roy died on the 28th of July 1978 in Adelaide and was cremated in the Centennial Park Crematorium.
