SERGEANT NOWOTNA
Mrs. A. H. Nowotna has received word from her husband, Sergeant Alfred Henry Nowotna, saying that he has been congratulated by Major General Sir H. P. Cox, commanding the 4th Australian Infantry Brigade, on his devotion to duty on the Somme in August, 1916. Sergeant Nowotna worked for a considerable time in the local post office, and also as a miner at the North mine. He enlisted in Victoria in September, 1914 with the 14th Battalion. He has been on active service in Egypt, France, and Gallipoli, and is now in Belgium.
