Foxcroft was with a party of about a dozen men of the 14th Battalion, led by Lieutenant Luscombe, who were captured by the Turks while trying to attack Hill 971 on the 8 August 1915. Foxcroft was wounded when captured, but recovered and survived pneumonia during 3 years as a prisoner of war.
