Son of Mary YOUNG (Formerly TAMS), of Stockton, New South Wales, and the late Leonard TAMS. Native of Weston-on-Trent, England.

Albert was the son of Leonard TAMS and Mary YOUNG (formerly TAMS nee FROGGATT). Born in Colwich, Staffordshire, England in 1887 he was the youngest of his three siblings, Ellen TAMS, Arthur TAMS (Service No: 20988) and Millicent TAMS. After his fathers death in 1891, his mother married William YOUNG in 1894. Albert arrived in New South Wales, Australia on the 28th April 1900 on the ship Ortona. Albert was known in the Hunter Valley district as a music composer and song writer and was involved in the creation of the songs titled Love Knots Waltz, Night Waltz, Where the Hunter River Flows, On the Promenade and In the Ranks of the Firing Line
